About the weather in Peru, it varies between regions. Here, we’ll tell you more about the best time to travel in each one: 

When to travel through the coast of Peru? 

La costa peruana tiene un clima templado en el año. Se diferencia en dos partes:

  • The north coast has sun and warm weather throughout the year, but less chance of cloudy days in summer, which goes from December to the end of April. 
  • The central and south coast have an intense sensation of cold in winter, as they have a high level of humidity by being close to the Pacific Ocean. Winter in Peru goes throughout June and mid-September. 
  • Here you will find: Talara, Piura, Tumbes, Trujillo and Lima. 

When to travel through the highlands of Peru? 

The highlands have two differentiated weathers: 

  • In summer, it has sunny days and cold nights, especially through April and October. 
  • The rainy season goes from November to March in this region.  
  • You can visit: Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cuzco and Juliaca. 

When to travel through to the Peruvian jungle? 

The jungle has a low rainy season through April and October, which are the ideal months to travel and discover this region during this season. Here you can travel to: Iquitos, Pucallpa and Tarapoto. 

Best places to visit in Peru 

If you´re keen on finding what to do in Peru, here are some of the many activities you may like. 

In the Peruvian coast: 

  • Visit Mancora, Piura in the regions North Coast, to get the perfect beach and surf days, where you can catch amazing waves, paddleboard when the tide is low, swim with turtles and whale sharks, kite surf, and much more.  
  • In Lima, you can take a walk or bike through the Costa Verde, have lunch with an ocean view in Larcomar, and even visit the sacred site “Huaca Puccllana”, to learn more about its prehispanic past. The capital is also home for some of the best restaurants in Peru, where you will get to taste the different types of Peruvian gastronomy.  

In the Peruvian highlands: 

  • There are many places visit, such as Cuzco, where you can walk through Machu Picchu and the Sacred Incan Valley and be amazed with the views and historic past, learn about the Incan engineering with the twelve-angled stone, the San Pedro market for amazing and cheap food, and more.  
  • In Arequipa, the city welcomes you with a Historic Center that is a World Patrimony. Visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, to learn about the lifestyle of cloistered nuns and local architecture. Also, the Colca Canyon is a place you can’t miss, being the best place in South America to spot the Andean Condor and practice trekking. Don’t forget to try the incredible local food and queso helado! 

In the Peruvian jungle: 

  • In Iquitos and Pucallpa, you will truly experience getting into the jungle, with many waterfalls, rivers, flora and fauna that make up this amazing region.  Visit the Monkey Island, which is a natural space with 8 different species of monkeys and sloths, tour in the Amazon River to find and connect with the fauna, take a “mototaxi” to move around and you can´t miss the traditional jungle dishes: Juane, Tacacho and Cecina.

Tips For Traveling Peru:

Here are some extra tips for your visit: 

  • For beautiful souvenirs, visit the Indian Market in Miraflores, Lima. You will find artwork, clothes, house decorations, carvings, etc. There’s always something that someone at home could like. 
  • Cuzco is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters (11,200 ft). If you’re traveling to a city at a high altitude like Cuzco or Arequipa, make sure to take things slow upon your arrival, so your body can settle. Also, you can drink mate de coca, which helps with the “soroche”. 
  • If you’re visiting Machu Picchu, always anticipate and get the tickets before your visit, especially if you’re traveling during the busy season between May and September. 
  • If you’re traveling during the Peruvian summer (through December and April), especially if you’re visiting the highlands and jungle, don’t forget to have bug repellent on hand.

The closest destinies to Mancora are Talara and Tumbes. These are approximately 2 hours away from the most visited beaches. You can schedule a taxi from the airport to your stay with anticipation from Lima or take a bus for a cheaper option.
